Crisis in Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has officially expelled Adolphus Wabara, the current Chairman of the party's Board of Trustees and former President of the Senate.

This decision was made public following an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee, which convened to discuss the findings of its Disciplinary Committee.

A statement issued on Tuesday, signed by State Chairman Abraham Amah and State Secretary Peter Nwaokonko, detailed the outcome.

The statement indicated, “Following a comprehensive evaluation of the committee’s findings and recommendations concerning the expulsion of Senator Adolphus Wabara, the SWC has unanimously endorsed the recommendations presented in the report.

“Senator Adolphus Wabara is hereby expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”

The party referenced Articles 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which stipulate that expelled members forfeit all rights and privileges within the party.

“In accordance with Article 57(3) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which specifies that an expelled member cannot exercise any rights or privileges within the party, the Abia State Executive Committee recommends the prompt appointment of an Acting BoT Chairman by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our esteemed party,” Amah stated.

The party reiterated its dedication to upholding discipline and ensuring that all members adhere to the party’s constitution, asserting, “The Abia State PDP reaffirms its commitment to maintaining party discipline and ensuring that all members operate within the framework of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended). The party remains steadfast in its efforts to preserve unity, loyalty, and respect for party structures. No member, irrespective of their position, is above the party’s rules and regulations.”
