LeBron James has made history by becoming the first player in the NBA to achieve 50,000 career points
Entering the matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Los Angeles Lakers star had accumulated 49,999 points from both regular and postseason play, following a 17-point effort in a recent victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
It took only a brief moment for the 40-year-old basketball legend to secure the single point necessary to surpass the 50,000-point milestone.
In his 22nd season, showcasing remarkable skill, James received a pass from Luka Doncic and executed an impressive 25-foot three-pointer, elevating his total to 50,002 points amidst the enthusiastic cheers of the Crypto.com Arena crowd.
Earlier in 2023, James had already eclipsed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing regular-season scoring record of 38,387 points, a record that had remained unbroken for 39 years.
Currently, James holds a lead of nearly 6,000 points over Abdul-Jabbar’s total career points of 44,149, with Karl Malone in third place at 41,689 points and the late Kobe Bryant in fourth with 39,283 points.
Michael Jordan ranks fifth on the all-time scoring list with 38,279 points.
Among active players, only Kevin Durant, with just over 35,000 points—approximately 15,000 points behind James—ranks within the top 10.
